NFPA 1971 Thermal Protective Performance Tester For Personal Protect Equipment

The NFPA 1971 Thermal Protection Performance Tester is designed specifically for evaluating the thermal performance of firefighter protective gear and flame-retardant materials. It complies with international standards such as NFPA 1971, NFPA 1977, ISO 17492, ASTM F2700, ASTM F2703, CAN/CGSB-155.20, EN 1486, and GA 634-2015. By simulating a high heat flux of 84 kW/m², this tester accurately tests the thermal insulation performance of firefighter structural firefighting protective jackets, pants, coveralls, jumpsuits, hoods, sleeves, glove liners, boot liners, wildland firefighting apparel, industrial flame-retardant workwear, reflective thermal protective apparel, hydrocarbon flash fire resistant workwear, and multi-layer flame-retardant textile composite systems under radiant and convective heat exposure. The device accurately measures heat transfer rates and predicts potential burn time and severity, providing a scientific basis for the safety of firefighter protective gear, ensuring its effectiveness in extreme heat environments and meeting the stringent requirements of the firefighting, industrial, and specialty protection sectors.

Product Testing Scope:

Turnout coats, turnout pants, coveralls, jumpsuits, multi-layer flame-resistant fabric systems, wristlets, hoods, glove liners, footwear liners, wildland firefighting garments, industrial flame-resistant workwear, reflective protective clothing for specialized firefighting, hydrocarbon flash fire protective workwear, and thermal insulation protective ensemble components.

Performance Features:

1. The test apparatus should include a specimen holder assembly, a specimen holder bracket, a heat source, a protective cover, a sensor assembly, a recorder, and gaskets. It should also include a gas source, a gas flowmeter, a burner, and a sensor.

2. A removable corundum protective plate, heat-resistant to 1800°C, shields the flame and reduces test errors.

3. Two Meker burners positioned at 45°C, combined with nine quartz tubes, provide a standard convection heat source.

4. The Meker burner has a 38mm orifice and a 5/16-inch inner diameter, providing a heat output of 800-1200 watts. The burner orifice is a metal mesh structure, and the lower damper is adjustable to adjust the air and combustible gas mixture ratio.

5. An array of nine T150 quartz infrared tubes provides a heat radiation flux of 13-40 kW/m² ± 4 kW/m².

6. Under the heat radiation of the quartz infrared tubes, the total heat flux can be set to 0.000 by adjusting the gas supply to the Meker burners. 83kW/m² ± 2 kW/m²;

7. The calibrated heat flow meter is water-cooled, with an operating range of 0-100kW/m² and a maximum operating range of 150%;

8. The heat flow meter has a response time of less than 200ms, an emissivity greater than 0.95, and an output signal greater than 5mV within the operating range;

9. The copper disk calorimeter device can be used to detect convective and radiant heat, and can also detect the backside temperature of the specimen;

10. The rotor flowmeter adjusts the combustion gas flow rate with an accuracy of ±2% and a range greater than 3L/min;

11. The pointer pressure gauge adjusts the inlet pressure via a pressure reducing valve with a range of 0-15psi;

12. The quarter-turn plug manually shuts off the combustible gas;

13. The temperature acquisition system has a resolution of 0.1°C and an accuracy of ±0.75°C;

14. The automated data acquisition system has a data acquisition speed of 0.05 seconds and provides cold junction compensation for thermocouple measurements;

15. Equipped with a computer and printer, standard test software, and standard test curves.
