Difference between EN45545-3 and EN45545-2

EN45545-3 standard is the fire resistance performance requirements and fire resistance test standards for vehicle materials.  EN45545-2 standard is the fire performance requirements for vehicle materials. For vehicle shielding and flooring overall materials, the materials are required to be able to at least meet the 30-minute fire resistance test of the EN45545-3 standard. For at least 30 minutes after a fire occurs, the integrity, load-bearing capacity, heat insulation and other requirements of the product can be guaranteed. The EN45545-2 standard mainly evaluates the fire retardant performance and smoke toxicity performance based on the combustion damage length.

EN45545-2:2020 Railway applications-Fire protection of railway vehicles-Part 2: Requirement for fire behaviour of materials and components.

EN45545-3:2013 Railway applications-Fire protection of railway vehicles-Part 3: Fire resistance requirements for fire barriers.

EN45545-3 Fire resistance test method

When the sample is exposed to high temperature and high pressure conditions, the load-bearing capacity, integrity and thermal insulation of the test sample within the specified time are examined. The test time of EN45545-3 can be 30 minutes, 60 minutes, 90 minutes, 120 minutes, 150 minutes, 180 minutes, etc. The specific time is determined according to customer requirements and product performance. Fire-resistant screen doors for subways must at least meet the EN45545-3 standard for a 30-minute fire resistance test.

EN45545-3 fire resistance test performance evaluation: can be evaluated through load-bearing, integrity, and thermal insulation.

The EN45545-2 standard is the fire protection of rail vehicles - fire performance requirements for materials and components. EN45545-2 requires materials used on rail transit vehicles to have flame-retardant and fire-retardant properties, low smoke release, and low toxicity and non-toxic properties. The EN45545 standard divides testing into 28 categories based on the final use of the product.
