PV Module Flame Test Equipment, UL 790


Overview

Photovoltaic module combustion test system for roofing materials or photovoltaic modules that are exposed to the exterior of the building and mounted on combustible or non-combustible substrate.


It can be divided into three levels according to the exposed fire source:

Class A is a covering material that can produce high grade protection for the roof substrate in the case of severe fire, without collapse and without flying fire;

Class B is medium protection for the roof substrate in the case of medium fire, no collapse and no flying fire;

Class C provides light protection against light fire without collapse or fire.


Its combustion mode is divided into intermittent fire, wood burning test and flying fire test.

Standards

  • UL 1703: multi-family and hotel room individual dwelling unit smoke detection monitors: electric signal detection of house dust;

  • UL 790: standard method of a fire test for the roof covering materials;

  • ASTM E 108-04: standard method of a fire test for roof covering materials;

  • NFPA 256: fire test of the roof deck.

  • IEC 61730-2 Appendix b: fire tests on PV modules.


Features

1. Roof covering material, size: 1,300mm(W) × 1,000mm(D) × 1200mm(H), used for installing test samples;

2, non-combustible test plate, installed at the end of the test plate, can block the tempering below the test plate;

3, stainless steel fan adjusting plate, the test Angle can be adjusted, the size is: 1,440mm(L) x 940mm(H);

4, the main frame is used to support the test bracket, corrosion resistant steel structure, size: 1,020mm(L) x 1,000mm(D) x 1,473mm(H);

5, non-combustible plate assembly, installed in the front end of the frame, simulate the eaves and cornice, the flame from the burner to the sample;

6, the test panel air flow rate: 19±8 km/h(5.5m/sec), and equipped with anemometer monitoring;

7. The air duct is equipped with a honeycomb filter screen, and the air inlet is equipped with a guide blade;

8, the adjustable turbulence sheet in the duct, can strengthen the wind speed, reduce turbulence, stainless steel, will not change position with the change of wind pressure;

9, duct material is made of stainless steel, corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance, size: 2,130mm(W) x 762mm(H) x 3,000mm(L);

10, the fan is 220V, 50HZ, three-phase power, equipped with reverse system can automatically adjust the wind speed, the minimum flow is 800m3/min;

11. Gas burner (for intermittent firing, flame propagation and flameout tests), 1.12m long, 60.3mm in diameter, with a slit 12.7mm wide 0.91m long on one side towards the test plate;

12, the gas burner can provide 22,000Btu/min(387kWh), and can automatically adjust the gas flow rate according to A, B, C three combustion grades

13, automatic ignition system, to ensure the safety of the test performance, ignition electrode minimum high pressure 1.8kVp mass flowmeter according to different standards, control gas flow rate, Class A & B: 21,000 ~ 22,000 Btu/min(369 ~ 387 kWh) for 10 minutes, Class C: 18,000 ~ 19,000 Btu/min(316 ~ 334 kWh) for 4 minutes;

14. Brand test system provides gas burner, whose flame can engulf combustion materials, and the temperature of gas burner can be adjusted to 880±10℃

15, metal mesh can support the material, in order to fully burn the material;

16. DAQ data acquisition system. The test software can display test information such as gas flow rate, gas calorific value and calibration temperature.
